One Point of Contact
Bringing all North Technology Group products to the commercial shipping market, offering fully integrated solutions, in-house hardware, and consultancy services to guide stakeholders in adopting wind propulsion technology, reducing operational costs, and achieving sustainability goals.
HARNESSING THE WIND
North Windships formed with a vision to lead commercial shipping to a more sustainable future, lowering emissions and reducing impact on our environment.
BEYOND FOSSIL FUELS
Through collaboration, education, and innovation, we aim to help ship owners, naval architects and fleet managers navigate this pivotal era, leaving behind fossil fuels and moving toward a more resilient, responsible energy future.
WIND PROPULSION MEETS MODERN INNOVATION
Modern wind propulsion harnesses cutting-edge technology, including rotor sails, rigid wing sails, suction systems, and Dyna Rigs, to dramatically reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. These systems integrate with existing vessels or inform the design of next-generation ships, offering immediate environmental benefits without compromising commercial performance.
CONSULTANCY SERVICES
Designed to help shipowners, designers, and operators transition to wind-assisted or fully wind-powered vessels with confidence and clarity. Drawing from decades of maritime expertise and a deep understanding of modern wind propulsion technologies, we provide independent, practical guidance to shape the next generation of sustainable shipping.
Expert guidance for wind driven change
North Windships is a consultancy brand of the North Technology Group, representing different windship technologies and products from the group that can be applied to the commercial shipping industry as CO2 reduction technologies. North Windships can assist in helping shipping companies address the 2023 IMO GHG strategy. The International Maritime Organization envisage a reduction in carbon intensity of international shipping (to reduce CO2 emissions per transport work), as an average across international shipping, by at least 40% by 2030. Followed by Net Zero emissions by 2050. North Sails, Southern Spars and Future Fibres can offer wind powered technologies through the North Windships market initiative.
The North Technology Group originated in 1957 with North Sails. Today, North Technology Group is a diverse family of companies serving marine and manufacturing markets worldwide.
Leading Spar Maker, Sail Maker, Composite Rigging manufacturer to construct alternative solutions for the shipping industry.

HISTORY of the dynarig
The DynaRig is a modern sail system dating back to the early 1960s. The concept was initially developed by Wilhelm Prölß, a German engineer, who envisioned a way to make large sailing vessels more efficient and easier to handle. His goal was to create a square-rigged sail system that eliminated many of the traditional limitations of sailing rigs.
